Dock Cottage Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome Dock Cottage
Welcome Dock Cottage
All you need to know about staying at Dock Cottage. Any other questions just, contact us.
How many people can Dock Cottage accommodate?
Dock Cottage sleeps up to four guests, making it ideal for both families and couples. Please note that the twin bedroom is accessed through the main bedroom, which is perfect for families but worth considering if you're staying with friends.
How do I book?
You can book online through our website or give us a call on 07961719996. A £100 deposit secures your date and your balance is due 8 weeks before you stay.
Is Dock Cottage dog-friendly?
Absolutely! We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs, though we kindly ask that they stay off the sofas and out of the bedrooms. There’s an additional charge of £25 for dogs, which goes towards the cleaning fee, and you can add this when booking.
Robin Hood’s Bay beach is dog-friendly all year round, which is perfect. We do ask that you don't leave your dog alone in the cottage. However, nearly everywhere in Robin Hood's Bay is dog friendly so your dog can come with you.
Does the holiday cottage have parking?
Yes, Dock Cottage offers private parking—a real rarity in Robin Hood’s Bay. The parking space is located at the top of the Bay and is exclusively for our guests, so you can come and go as you please.
You’re welcome to drive down to the cottage to unload before parking.
Does Dock Cottage have sea views?
Yes, yes, yes. Dock Cottage has stunning sea views from every single room. Whether you’re relaxing in the living room or waking up in the bedroom, you’ll be able to see the sea.
Watching the sunrise from the cottage is also a real treat. Peeking through the porthole windows at the sea offers a unique and charming perspective.
Do you provide linen and towels?
Yes, linen and towels are provided. Your beds will be made up on arrival for your group size, so you can just turn up and relax. Please bring your own towels for the beach.
Is Dock Cottage suitable for children?
Dock Cottage is family-friendly and loved by families as it is so close to the sea. However, please note that, like many cottages in the area, the stairs are steep and winding, so it may not be suitable for very young children.
There are plenty of child-friendly activities right on our doorstep: fossil hunting and rock pooling on the beach, exploring the dinosaur and village museum, and lots of ice cream!
Can I book a supermarket delivery to Dock Cottage?
You can try but many delivery vans don’t go down to the dock. However, Muir Lea Stores is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the cottage. It would be great if you could support the local village shop as we would be lost without them.
Both Aldi and Sainsbury’s are conveniently located about 10 minutes away, just before you reach Whitby.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is available from 3:00pm, and check-out is by 10:00am to allow us to clean and prepare the cottage for our next guests. However, if the cottage is ready earlier than 3pm we will drop you an email to let you know you can check in earlier.
If you're checking out on a Sunday, you have the option of a late check-out at 5:00pm, so you can enjoy a bit more time in the Bay. There is a £25 charge for the late check-out, but this does give you almost an extra day.
Is there a log fire in Dock Cottage?
Yes, Dock Cottage has a log burner in the lounge so in the winter months you can snuggle up by the fire and listen to the waves crashing outside.
We provide a winter log pack so you have enough logs to get started, and if you need more, Muir Lea Stores in the lower Bay has plenty available. Similarly Baytown Stores at the top of the Bay is also well stocked. The chimney is also swept on a yearly basis.
Is the cottage accessible for those with mobility issues?
Due to the historic nature of the cottage and its location in the heart of the village, there are steps and uneven surfaces that may not be ideal for those with limited mobility.
The main bathroom is also quite compact, making access to the toilet a bit tight. However, there is a separate toilet off the lounge for added convenience.
The bathroom looks a bit tight in the photos?
Yes it is snug and we are still thinking about how we can improve it. The shower and sink are easily accessible, but access to the toilet is a bit of a squeeze, to say the least. The joys of a 17th century cottage limit what we can do.
However, there is a separate toilet downstairs, just off the lounge.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, we provide free Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected during your stay. It is provided by the local community cooperative Bay Broadband.
Do you have an iron and Hair dryer?
Yes, we have an iron and ironing board in the double bedroom. There are two hairdryers in Dock Cottage, one located the top drawer of each of the dresser in both bedrooms.
Do you have central heating?
Yes, so you will be warm and cosy during your stay.
We hope you have a great stay and if you need to know anything else please just ask.
See you by the sea
Matt and Sian
