This picturesque coastal walk to Whitby is around 6 miles and takes approximately 2–3 hours each way. Following the Cleveland Way, it offers stunning views of the cliffs and sea, though it can be a little muddy in winter.

Start in Robin Hood’s Bay by heading right past the Grosvenor Hotel, and following the Cleveland Way signs towards Whitby.

Return, either on the flatter Cinder Track (the old railway line), or catch the bus back from Whitby to the top of the Bay.

Robin Hood's Bay and Maw Wyke

The 6-mile circular walk to Maw Wyke takes you along the cliffs north of Robin Hood’s Bay, passing Ness Point, one of the most treacherous headlands on this coastline.

Along the route, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the North Sea and stunning cliff scenery. The route returns along the Cinder Track, the old railway line between Whitby and Scarborough.

Robin Hood's Bay to Boggle Hole

This 1.5 mile walk begins in the lower Bay and follows a scenic section of the Cleveland Way.  Head up the steps to the right of the coastguards station to join the Cleveland Way. It takes about an hour to complete, with a perfect halfway stop at the YHA café for cake or an ice cream.

You can start on the Cleveland Way and return along the beach, or switch up your route depending on the tide times.

Woodland walk Goatland

Goathland to Mallyan Spout

Goathland is about 7 miles from Robin Hood's Bay. Known for being a filming location for the TV series Heartbeat.

Goathland offers charming scenery to explore. From there, you can wander through beautiful woodlands and along the river. When you reach Mallyan Spout, take a moment to enjoy the stunning waterfall and its picturesque surroundings.

Seals at Ravenscar

Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar

A popular walk from Robin Hood's Bay is to Ravenscar to see the seals. Depending on tide tides you can walk along the beach to Ravenscar and then back along the Clevelend way.

If you do it this way be aware that the climb up to Ravenscar is really steep and you do need to clamber over a few rocks!

Please make sure you keep your distance from the seals and when taking photos make the most of your zoom lens.

Falling Foss Circular Walk

A 10 minute drive from Robin Hood's Bay is the charming Falling Foss.  Perfect for walking dogs on a sunny day as it is mainly woodland.

This circular 4 mile route begins at Falling Foss and takes you through beautiful woodlands, alongside the River Esk.  I would definitely recommend you stop at the tea room there (Open from April - October).

For a longer walk, head from Falling Foss to Goathland. This path takes you through charming countryside and woodland, eventually leading you to Goathland.
