Where Can I Park in Robin Hood's Bay?

Everything you need to know about car parking in Robin Hood's Bay. We have free parking for our guests at Dock Cottage and Sherwood House. However, if you need additional parking spaces, read on…

If you are staying in Dock Cottage we've got you covered with a private parking space.  The private space is just at the top of the hill, through a snicket just past the playground.

You can drive down to Dock Cottage, park outside to unload straight into the kitchen.  Then return the car to your own space just at the top of the hill.  The space will fit one large car or two small cars, behind each other.

The parking is just for our guests so you can come and go as you please.

You have two parking options for Sherwood House as it sleeps 6, we recognise guests might arrive in more than one car.

Therefore we have a parking pass which allows you to park for free in either of the public car parks in the Bay.

We also have additional parking for a second car in a garage, located near Baytown Stores.  It is a large wooden garage (internally approx 3.17m wide, 5m long and 2.10m high.) Therefore, small family hatchbacks and compact SUVs would be fine. It might be a bit tight for large SUVs and executive saloons.

Fisherhead Car Parking

If you would like the convenience of being able to park in lower Robin Hood's Bay.  There is also the option of paying for a parking space in Fisherhead car park.  This is privately owned so you would need to do this directly with the owners.

Spaces are limited and sold on a first-come, first-served basis so I would book as soon as possible as they are popular.

Public Car Parking

Robin Hood's Bay has two public car parks, (Station car park and Bank Top car park).  Bank Top is the nearest but smaller of the two car parks.

These are pay-and-display car parks from March to October (using the RingGo app or cash at the machine).

If you have a permit from Sherwood House you can park for free in either car park, just display the permit which you will find in Sherwood House.

Electric Charging

Where can I charge my electric car in Robin Hood's Bay? Bank Top car park, opposite the Victoria Hotel has four EV charging Bays. A user cable is required.

There are also two charging points behind the doctor's surgery on Station Road.  You do need your own cable for this one as well.

Heading into Whitby you will also find two at Aldi.  The fastest charger is probably the InstaVolt at the large Co-Op car park in Whitby.

Is parking free in Robin Hood's Bay?

There is limited free parking in Robin Hood's Bay.  Sometimes, you can get a free parking space by St Stephen's church.  However, please do not use the spaces that are allocated for the church.

Also, parking is not allowed on some residential streets.  Please be mindful of where you park.

Remember if you are staying in Sherwood House or Dock Cottage you will have free parking with the cottage.

Can you drive into Robin Hood's Bay?

Yes, you can drive into the lower village.  However, it is down a very steep hill and access and turning is limited.

Just be aware that the road is very  steep and narrow, with only a few passing places.  So if it is really busy with people or you are not a confident driver, I would encourage you to use the public car parks and walk down.

It is only a 5 minute walk to reach the bottom.

Whitby and Scarborough

To park in certain areas of Whitby and Scarborough you need to display parking discs.  These are available for you to use in both Sherwood House and Dock Cottage.  Alternatively they are available for free from the Tourist Information Centres.

If you want a stress free visit to either of these places I would recommend getting the bus which runs every 30 minutes in peak season.  It leaves from Thorpe Lane.
